Soybean Processing Plant, Ghana
Developed and built a soybean processing plant in Tema, Ghana in coordination with the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF), the Agricultural Development Bank, the Irrigation Company of Upper Region Ltd (ICOUR) and the University of Ghana Faculty of Agriculture in Ghana, and the International Soybean Program at the University of Illinois and Global Foods Associates Inc in the United States. The plant processes 337,000 tons of raw soybeans annually into nine rich soy foods, including: soy flour, fresh soymilk, aseptically packaged liquid soymilk, soy-based infant formulas, textured vegetable protein, soy protein isolate, soy protein tofu, soy oil and soy meal.
Solar Village Institute (SVI), Tanzania
Developed and built a community-based organization in Ahakishaka, a remote rural village in northwest Tanzania on the Rwanda border. The work consisted of constructing a solar-powered camp for visitors, building demonstration solar home systems in village leaders’ huts, establishing a solar-powered radio communications network, improving feeder roads and creating a botanical garden. Later development included the formation of the Ahakishaka Waterworks, which captured a natural mountain spring and pumped the pure water to village. This created an opportunity to sell the water. Therefore, construction of a water bottling plant is planned. The American Cathedral in Paris partnered with SVI to build a tree nursery near the water source, which now sells coffee tree seedlings to the District Coffee Union. The nursery staff is now planting seedlings of Croton trees whose seeds produce oil that can be extracted and used to produce biofuel. SVI is currently seeking outside industrial partners that are interested in establishing dairy, fish, beef, biofuel, and construction businesses in Ahakishaka and elsewhere in the region.
Hydroelectric Plant and Cement Plant, Uganda
This project included the development and management of an industrial park in the Kampala region of Uganda, the establishment of a 5-15 MW small hydroelectric power plant and constructing the Kaku cement plant, which produces 300 tons of cement per day. The power plant and the Kaku cement plant are located in Kisoru, which is in southwestern Uganda.
