In 1995 Optimit biophysics/electronics staff completed the design/layout/calculations of a VLSI/ULSI (Very Large Scale Integrated Circuit) Semiconductor Biosensor which could be inserted in the tip and/or body of various types of catheters and relay (if desired) near-real-time data to a PC.
A Urinary Biosensor was optimized that could simultaneously detect/measure the following parameters at part-per-million levels:

- melanin
- pH level
- temperature
- flow rate
- blood cell presence (erythrocytes and leukocytes)
